Technical Talk on Indigenous Advanced Welding Technologies for Shipbuilding

The Institution of Naval Architects (INA) organized a technical session titled “Why Indigenizing Advanced Welding is Important for India’s Shipbuilding Industry.” The session focused on the strategic importance of adopting and developing advanced welding technologies within the country to strengthen India’s shipbuilding capabilities.

The session was delivered by Dr. Krishna Prasad S, Cochin Shipyard Limited, who shared expert insights on emerging welding processes such as hybrid laser welding and friction stir welding, and their role in improving productivity, precision, and quality in ship construction.

The discussion highlighted the need for self-reliance in critical shipbuilding processes, challenges associated with adopting and indigenizing advanced welding technologies, and the importance of collaboration among industry, academia, and research institutions to drive innovation.

The session provided valuable perspectives on how indigenous advanced welding technologies can contribute to the long-term growth and global competitiveness of India’s maritime and shipbuilding industry.
